ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS

QUESTION:    What is Assisted Living and how does it differ from a rest home?

ANSWER:       We are a Community that assists residents with their activities of daily living such as medication management; help with showering and grooming; transporting to appointments; and providing nutritious meals and hydration.  Some of our residents have some aliments and others are quite healthy.  None are restricted from join our loving family, some need to be monitored and more importantly, they do not want to be alone.

QUESTION:    How do I handle the transition of bringing my loved one to Shepherd of God if they are adamant against moving to an assisted living facility?

ANSWER:       Sometimes it is helpful for the person to visit Shepherd of God with a friend or relative at first to see what we have to offer.  Once you visit us and enjoy our surroundings and services, you can then speak to your loved one about trying-out our residential services.  We invite you to bring your loved one to Shepherd of God to visit and enjoy a wonderful meal.  We can also visit your loved one at their home to evaluate them and explain our services.  We understand how difficult this decision can be and we are willing to accommodate families and loved ones as needed. They just need to know that this is truly a happy family environment, not some cold, boring old age home.

QUESTION:    Does Medicare or Medical help with the cost?

ANSWER:       Thus far the State and Federal government has not decided to help families who can not afford the cost.  However, for residents who qualify, Social Security SSI can help pay between $850 and $1,050 as part of the rent and then the families or the resident can make-up the difference.

QUESTION:    What happens when a resident worsens and their care needs increase?

ANSWER:       In many cases their care can still be handled by our community without needing to be moved or having an  increase in the care rate. However if their care needs get so high that they become a higher category of care, then there will need to be a increase in the care rate or the resident may need to be moved to a convalescent hospital or some other kind of facility..

QUESTION:    Once I (or my loved one) is willing to make a commitment to join the Shepherd of God Community, what is the next step?

ANSWER:       After someone from the Administration team evaluates you or your loved one, you or your loved one would need to see your physician who will fill-out .  State Licensing paperwork and the new resident needs to have a tuberculosis clearance.  Someone from the Administration team reviews this paperwork and then will contact you to make arrangements.  You may obtain and print this preliminary paperwork on our website under [Physician's Report, Admission Agreement, and Resident's Rights].

ANSWER:       We strive to get residents to live an exciting chapter in their life and revive a passion for living.  Once we get to know our residents, we accommodate each resident according to their needs.  Each resident has their own unique personality; they have their own doubts and insecurities.  They have their own talents.  Before long, the resident is part of our extended caring family.
